Currently, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are locking horns with Delhi Capitals (DC) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. After winning the toss, the DC skipper, Shreyas Iyer asked the hosts to bat first citing the batting-friendly conditions. However, the hosts started their innings in an unforgettable way as the debutant Joe Denly got dismissed on the first ball of the match itself.

During the toss, the KKR skipper, Dinesh Karthik revealed that they have made as many as 3 changes to their squad as Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, and Harry Gurney made way for Denly, Lockie Ferguson, and Carlos Braithwaite. On the other hand, DC made just one change to their squad as Keemo Paul came back to the squad to replace Sandeep Lamichhane.

Ishant Sharma was bowling the first over of the match and on the very first ball, he sent the off stump of Denly for a cartwheel. After his wicket, Shubman Gill and Robin Uthappa added 63 runs for the 2nd wicket. Before the latter getting dismissed in the 9th over by Kagiso Rabada. Even Nitish Rana got out early in the 13th over followed by Gill in 15th and Dinesh Karthik in the 16th over bowled by Rabada.

However, in the 18th over of the game, the fans got to see the warm gesture between Andre Russell and Rabada. Unfortunately, the ball slipped out of the bowler’s hand due to the heavy dew which left Russell in some pain as he fell on the ground immediately. After seeing Russell in pain, Rabada walked up to him to enquire the magnitude of the pain by giving his hand to help him get up on his feet. Dre Russ acknowledged the gesture and the game carried on. Amidst all the controversies that have grabbed headlines this is a gesture that would bring to the fore the Spirit of Cricket.

Earlier in the game, in the 17th over, Russell gave some trouble to Carlos Braithwaite at the non-striker’ss end with his brute power. Morris delivered a length ball on the middle and Russel hammered straight at Brathwaite, who has no time to react and immediately fell on the ground.

Despite Russell getting out in the penultimate over of the match, KKR managed to reach the total of 178/7 in their quota of 20 overs.
