Team India head coach Rahul Dravid was at his animated best form after the team beat South Africa in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 to lift the trophy on Saturday, June 29, at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados as well. However, this was the last match of Rahul Dravid as Team India head coach as he has confirmed that he would not be continuing his coaching duty with the Indian team.
He took over the rein from Ravi Shastri after India’s T20 World Cup 2021 debacle. Dravid joined the team for a two-year term, which ended in 2023 after India’s dream run at the 2023 ODI World Cup ended. India won ten matches in a row before facing a loss to Australia National Cricket Team in the final. The BCCI then offered an extension to him and urged the team to continue for a few more months till the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Rahul Dravid accepted that and he stayed on for six more months as well.
Under him, India played 4 ICC events – T20 World Cup 2022, ICC World Test Championship 2021-23, ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and ICC T20 World Cup 2024. India lost to England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 and the Australian team defeated India in the ICC World Test Championship Final and ICC ODI World Cup final as well. However, they finally ended their ICC trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title as well.

However, Rahul Dravid was seen celebrating well as India sealed the game but his best avatar was seen when he celebrated with the trophy. The head coach was standing in the back as the players were celebrating and that was when Virat Kohli decided to call him in the middle and handed him the trophy to celebrate. Rahul Dravid was pumped up and celebrated aggressively. He also shouted as he pulled off a great celebration with the trophy.
Rohit Sharma, India Captain said: “Very hard to sum up what we have been through for the last 3-4 years. To be honest, we worked very hard as individuals and as a team a team, lot has gone on behind the scenes for us to be here today and win this game. It is not what we did today, it is what we have been doing for the last 3-4 years. That’s the the result that has come for us today. We have played lots of high pressure games in the past as well and have been on the wrong side as well. But the guys understand what needs to be done. Today was the perfect example of when the back is against the wall, what is required.”
