Ravindra Jadeja appealed for a bowled dismissal

Generally, a bowler appeals in a cricket match either for a leg before wicket, or maybe for a catch behind the stumps off the nick of the bat. But, its pretty rare sight to see a bowler appealed for a bowled dismissal. However, Sir Ravindra Jadeja did it on Tuesday.

On Day 4 of the third and the final Test match between India and Sri Lanka, a bewildered Jaddu made an appeal on dismissing nightwatchman Suranga Lakmal after castling down the stumps.

The incident took place in the final over of the day. Jadeja had just dismissed Dimuth Karunaratne off the very first ball of the 16th over. In walked nightwatchman Lakmal. A dot and a dot and out.

Sir Jadeja delivred a flighted delivery on the off stump as Lakmal delayed in bringing down the bat. The spinning ball edged the bottom edge of the bat and rattled against the off stump. But the Indian spinner instead looked at the umpire and appealed for the dismissal. And that was a fun moment for his teammates who were left in splits looking at Jadeja.

Even the on-air commentators remarked, “You don’t appeal for a clean bowled, Mr. Jadeja.” The umpire too had a priceless expression on his face. The bowler left in splits and so did others as the Lankans slipped three down in their second innings.
