Punjab Kings looked to dismissed him early in the innings when C Shamshuddin adjudged him caught behind, which left Rohit fuming. Moises Henriques was bowling the opening over of the innings can have Sharma caught behind only to be reviewed by the MI skipper. The decision was eventually got overturned and Rohit got an early reprieve.

Punjab Kings were bowling well in the powerplay and restricted MI to just 21 runs in the first six overs – the lowest of this season. However, the defending champions somehow reached 131/6 in 20 overs to post a competitive total on the board.
