The Indian deputy skipper, Rohit Sharma took a brilliant relay catch at teh square-leg boundary do dismiss teh dangerous-looking Martin Guptill. Team India is currently locking horns with New Zealand in the first of the five-match T20I series at the Eden Park in Auckland. The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli won the toss and asked the hosts to bowl first.

Guptill, along with his opening partner, Colin Munro took the Kiwis off to a flyer by targetting Shardul Thakur early in the innings. The hosts surpassed the 50-run mark in merely 4.3 overs as both the openers smashed the ball all around the park and they went on to add 68 runs in the first 6 overs.

However, in the eighth over of the match which was bowled by the Indain all-rounder, Shivam Dube, the brilliant catch from Rohit finally broke the opening partnership of 80 runs.

On the fifth ball of the over, Dube banged the ball short at around 119s and Guptill went for a pull shot but he was cramped by the bowler as s result he couldn’t find enough room for himself to generate some power. Rohit got under the ball at the boundary line and grabbed the ball, but the momentum of teh ball made him lose his balance and he was going to touch the rope. However, Sharma, He showed good presence of mind, tosses the ball into play, then jumps back in to snaffle it. It was a much-needed breakthrough for India and it was surprisingly brought by Dube.

Virat Kohli and his men arrived in New Zealand after witnessing a successful home season, which includes T20I series wins against Bangladesh, West Indies, and Sri Lanka, and the ODI series wins against West Indies and Australia.

This is the first meeting between both sides since the 2019 World Cup semifinal, where New Zealand defeated the men in blue by 18 runs.
