The Australian women’s cricket team won their record fifth T20 world title after beating India in the final at the MCG by 85 runs. It was total dominance from them and resulted in a much-deserved win for Meg Lanning and her teams. After Alyssa Healy (75) and Beth Mooney (78*) stitched a 115-run stand and took Australia to 184/4 in 20 overs; the only problem for them was to restrict Indian opener Shafali Verma, who at the 16-years of age, has made the cricketing world in a storm with her fluent batting.
She had made 163 runs in 5 matches in the tournament which came at a strike rate of 158.25 with the best score of 47 and she was the reason India managed to post defendable totals in every situation on the board in the league stages. She was the biggest threat to their opponents – Australian women and dismissing the new no. 1 ranked T20I batter was in their mind.
However, it was the worst day for Shafali Verma at the office as Megan Schutt dismissed her on the third ball where Verma caught by Healy for 2 runs and the tone of the match was set by then. Schutt picked a whopping four wickets in her 3.1 overs spell and Jess Jonassen picked up three as India managed to put up mere 99 runs and lost the final as well.

Shafali knew that the responsibility was on her to give India a flying start to her team in their massive chase of 185 runs and was in teary-eyed as she watched the match slip out of their hand and they eventually lost. After Australia bagged the final wicket, the youngster was seen crying where she was being consoled by the captain Harmanpreet Kaur and then by another youngster Harleen Deol.
Here are some tweets by Twitterati for Shafali Verma:
