Rameez Shahzad, United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) top-order batsman, took a one-handed catch which left the crowd awestruck to dismiss George Munsey of Scotland in the third playoff of Twenty20 (T20) World Cup qualifier on Wednesday. However, Rameez’s effort wasn’t enough for UAE to win the game as they suffered a defeat by 90 runs as Scotland reached the final of the tournament.
Scotland batted first after winning the toss, Munsey along with his captain Kyle Coetzer stitched an 87-run partnership for the first wicket that set up the platform for a humungous total. A late flourish from Richie Berrington, who scored 48 off just 18 deliveries, helped Scotland reach a winning score of 198.

The catch was similar to that of what the English all-rounder, Ben Stokes had pulled off in the World Cup 2019 match against South Africa. The ICC had praised Ben Stokes in a tweet, saying: “Ben Stokes has just taken one of the greatest catches you will EVER see!”

Chasing 199 for the win, UAE got bundled out for a meager score of 108 in the 19th over. After suffering a 90-run loss, UAE failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be played next year. For Scotland, Safyaan Sharif and Mark Watt took three wickets apiece that wrapped up UAE’s innings for 108. Only three batsmen from the UAE managed to reach double figures.
With the win, Scotland qualified for the showpiece event. Earlier, Namibia, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, and the Netherlands booked a place in the T20 World Cup. UAE had lost to the Netherlands in the first play-off on Tuesday.
