Despite the allegations of possible rigging of votes, former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan has claimed victory in elections and is set to be named the next Prime Minister of the nation. He has been a political face in Pakistan for a long time and the possibility of him becoming the next PM was visible even across the border by Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.

Gavaskar, who became a well-known commentator after calling time on international cricket, was once doing commentary in the Asia Cup 2012 during a match between India and Bangladesh alongside former Pakistani batsman Ramiz Raja. In a conversation where Ramiz mimicked Imran a little while narrating an incident, Gavaskar warned his counterpart to not do so as the man he is mimicking could become the next Prime Minister of Pakistan. In the same match, Sachin Tendulkar scored his 100th international century as well.

Here’s the video of the incident:

Imran’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has emerged as the single largest party in the 2018 Elections but would still need coalition partners in order to form the government. The man who once led his country’s cricket team to their maiden ICC World Cup title in 1992, is expected to lead a wave of change in Pakistan having promised his people of ‘Naya Pakistan’.

In the early 80s, there has always been heard that Sunil Gavaskar and Imran Khan were very close friends and they had an immense amount of respect towards each other. However, while playing against India, Khan dominated against India more often than not. Even in 1992, Gavaskar had predicted that Pakistan will lift the World Cup despite the fact that the men in green had won just one game after the first 5 matches.

While also requesting his rivals to support him in the bid to develop the nation. Imran said, “I want to thank Allah for giving me this opportunity to serve the nation. Through its ups and downs; I am grateful for being given this chance. I came into politics 22 years ago because I believe that the potential of our country was not being realized. The Pakistan that I saw growing up, deteriorated in front of my eyes. I entered politics because I wanted Pakistan to become the country that Jinnah had envisioned.

As he takes the oath, Imran will also become the first international cricketer in the world to later turn into a Prime Minister of a country.
