Dhaka Premier League is currently being played in Bangladesh, where several national cricketers of Bangladesh are playing along with emerging talents. The league is not short of action and has produced several high-intensity matches. An interesting incident occurred with Bangladesh’s star batsman Tamim Iqbal during a match between Mohammedan Sporting and Prime Bank Cricket Club.
Tamim Iqbal has never been ranked among the quickest outfield fielders among the current international cricketers. Hence, his fielding has often been shoddy in international cricket as well. Another display of his fielding error was seen during a game between his team Prime Bank Cricket Club (PBCC) and Mohammedan Sporting.
Tamim was fielding on the boundary ropes. Shakib Al Hasan played a sweep shot in the 14th over towards Tamim, who was fielding on the long-on. Tamim gathered the ball in the first attempt but he forgot to keep the boundary ropes in mind and crossed the boundary cushion to concede a boundary.

This looked like a school-boy error by Tamim who couldn’t figure out his position and went on to cross the boundary ropes while collecting the ball. However, he showed a good spirit by indicating to the umpire that it is a boundary to avoid wasting unnecessary time.
DPL 2021 has used vintage rope-like boundary lines with no solid covering. They have done so for almost the entirety of the tournament.
That was the problem in Tamim Iqbal’s case as well. Due to the lack of foam covering, he was unable to feel that he had touched the line. It was only after his teammates started laughing, that he noticed the boundary line and realized his mistake.
