The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have registered a hat-trick of wins after a double hat-trick of losses at the start of the season and have gained some momentum as well. They defended 202 runs at the M Chinnaswamy stadium and this time, their death bowling was at par. Umesh Yadav, who had almost conceded 26 runs in the final over against CSK, bowled superbly in the 18th and 20th overs as Virat Kohli and his men defeated the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 17 runs.
Parthiv Patel started smashing the KXIP bowlers from the word go. However, RCB lost their skipper in the 4th over of Mohammed Shami and Parthiv took the revenge for the same. He smacked Shami for as many as 18 runs in the final over of the powerplay with the help of three fours and a six. However, in the 7th over itself, Patel was dismissed by Murugan Ashwin.
Then AB de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis decided to stay till the end. Both of them stuck in the middle and decided to go behind the bowlers in the last four overs when they smashed as many as 64 runs. RCB reached a total of 202/4 in their quota of 20 overs.
During the chase, KL Rahul and Chris Gayle came out all guns blazing as they smashed 36 runs in the first three overs itself. Umesh Yadav was bowling the 4th over and Gayle started it with smashing the six over long-on and on the very next ball he attempted the same but failed as De Villiers took a comfortable catch at the long-on.
KXIP scored as many as 68 runs in the powerplay as Rahul and Mayank Agarwal carried forward the momentum but both of them were dismissed in the 10th and 11th over respectively. After their dismissal, David Miller and Pooran decided to take Punjab over the line as they scored as many as 68 runs for the 4th wicket.
Punjab needed 27 runs in the final over of Umesh and Ashwin started it with a six over the long-on boundary and on the next ball he attempted the same but got out as Kohli took a brilliant catch at the boundary. However, his reaction after taking the catch was unusual. Here is the video of the dismissal:
