Indian weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu bagged a historic silver medal on the first day of the Tokyo Olympics. She participated in the 49kg category and lifted a total of 202 kgs (87kgs in snatch and 115kgs in clean and jerk) to claim the silver medal.

She became the first player to win a medal in weightlifting since Karnam Malleswari, who bagged a bronze medal in Sydney Olympics back in 2000.

India sent a huge 228-member contingent for the Tokyo Olympics, which includes 127 players in 18 sports. They also sent two alternate players and one reserve goalie in the menโ€™s and womenโ€™s hockey squad. This is the biggest squad that India has ever send for any Olympic event in history.
