Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta has recently revealed that he is surprised to see the exclusion of Kuldeep Yadav from the Test squad of India for their tour of England. He also stated that the youngster must be backed as he has a very unique skill set.
His comments came after BCCI announced India’s squad for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand from June 18 in Southampton and then tests against England. And, Kuldeep Yadav was one of the major missing names in the 20-member squad as well.
It is also noteworthy that, Kuldeep has been travelling with the Indian team but he did not get the opportunity to play in Australia. Later, in the four-match Test series against England at home, Kuldeep Yadav got only a match to play and Shahbaz Nadeem and then Axar Patel replaced him as well. Even, he didn’t play in the now-postponed Indian Premier League 2021 as well.

“With Kuldeep, I am a little surprised (not picked for England tour). Because a year ago, he was the No. 1 spinner. Within a year, he is not on the contract list. He is not there on any side. He might be there in the side for Sri Lanka. But I am a little surprised. Obviously, his arc has gone down, his performances have gone down. I still believe that his skill set is very unique. And we need to keep investing in him,” Dasgupta told Sports Today.

Deep Dasgupta, while speaking to Sports Today, stated that he understands that the exclusion of Kuldeep Yadav came on the back of his recent performances.
“I understand why he is not on the side, because of his performance. I still believe he is young. He has a lot of cricket left in him and he should not be left in the lurch, let to be on his own. We must back him. I hope so (he gets picked for the Sri Lanka tour). On the white-ball side, obviously someone like Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar and Kuldeep… they should all be there,” Dasgupta concluded.
