West Indies and Australia resumed their One-Day International series on Saturday after the doubts surrounding the series post a positive Covid-19 case in the West Indian support staff. West Indies pushed Australia down in the second ODI to level the series with the final game still to be played.

Alex Carey won the toss and opted to bat first. But to their dismay, their batsmen failed miserably against West Indian bowlers and fell like ninepins. Australia were 45/6 at one point and were staring down at a humiliating team total.

However, lower-order batsmen chipped in with bat significantly to take the total to 187/10 in 47.1 overs.

Meanwhile, an interesting incident occurred during Australian innings as West Indies had 10 men on the field. The event happened during the 16th over, which Akael Hossain was bowling to Mitchell Starc. Hossain bowled a no-ball with several players were fielding close to bat in pursuit of a close catch. As the following delivery was a free-hit, West Indies couldn’t change their field.

Captain Kieron Pollard was fielding at short leg and was in danger of being hit by the ball. Hence, Pollard decided to leave the playing area and stood outside the boundary cushion for the ball. Starc, though, couldn’t capitalize on the free-hit and only managed a single.

Australian top-order crumbled badly and the tailenders did the repair job. After losing their sixth wicket for 45 and seventh for 96, the Aussies managed to get 187 runs on the board. Wes Agar top-scored with 41 coming at number 10.

The final ODI will be played on 26 July in Barbados.
