CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was gutted after he was ruled out of the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a hairline fracture in his elbow. In the CSK’s pre-match press conference before their match against the KKR at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, head coach Stephen Fleming gave an update on Gaikwad, who got injured in the match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) as well.

With Gaikwad not being there, MS Dhoni has been handed over the captaincy duties as captain. Dhoni will return as captain for the first time since the IPL 2023 final against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as well.
“I am really gutted to miss the rest of the IPL due to an unfortunate elbow injury. I want to thank everyone for your support so far, it truly means a lot,” Gaikwad said in a video posted on CSK’s social media handles.

However, CSK haven’t had the best of campaigns so far, having lost their last four matches as well. However, Gaikwad reckoned that a 43-year-young Dhoni can turn their fortunes this time as well.
“Yes, it’s been a challenging season, but we’ve got a young wicketkeeper leading the team now, and hopefully things will turn around. I’ll be right there with the squad, supporting them from the dugout. I would’ve loved to help lift the team out of this situation, but some things are simply out of our control. Looking forward to backing the boys for the rest of the campaign, here’s to a strong finish to the season,” Gaikwad further added.
