Matt Renshaw said that the Australian team had managed to “settle the score” with Bangladesh after sealing the T20I series in Chattogram with a game in hand, having lost the ODI series in Dhaka. However, Bangladesh entered the T20Is high on confidence after their 2-1 ODI series win as well, but Australia bounced back, winning the first two matches in Chattogram. And Renshaw played a key role in the series-clinching victory, scoring an unbeaten 89 in the second T20I as well.

“Yeah, a little bit,” Renshaw said. “In the one-day series there were a few really good games and it felt like every game we were just a little bit short. We were probably 20-30 runs short in a couple of games. And then these last two games, obviously chasing it down in the first game and setting a really nice target today, it’s nice to get a little bit of the rub of the green, especially since it’s been a tough tour wins-wise. So it’s nice to get a couple of wins and wrap up the series after two games.”

“I wouldn’t say there was a plan. It’s just the way Timmy plays. There was a short boundary, the wind was going that way and he liked the match-up. But it was more about really good communication around what we were after, which bowlers we felt we wanted to attack and which ones we didn’t. The big thing was that even if we had a few dot balls, it wasn’t the end of the world. We felt like we could still score,” he added.

Meanwhile, Matt Renshaw also stated that he had struggled for clarity during the ODI series, something he did well in the second T20I.

“For me, it was just about having really good intent. That’s probably something I lacked during the one-dayers. Coming from Pakistan, that had been one of my strengths, but there was a little bit of a lack of clarity around how I wanted to play. When you miss out a couple of times, that can happen. Today, I would’ve been happy with 20 the way I started my innings, and fortunately I’m sitting here talking to you guys after getting a few more,” he shared.

“Well, apparently my bowling’s not great,” Matt Renshaw concluded. “I saw a little tidbit from one of the Bangladeshi players. I see my bowling more from a batter’s point of view – trying to work out what the batter is looking to do each ball. I know I’m probably not going to land every ball exactly where I want to, so I try to adjust with the field and do whatever I can for the team. Fortunately, I’ve picked up a few wickets on this tour and that’s been nice.”
