Exactly four years ago, India chased down a target of 360 against Australia with 39 balls and 9 wickets in hand. The feat was achieved because of India’s top order in Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli. The trio went all guns blazing from the start and did not give the opposition a single chance to defend such a huge total.

Having won the first ODI by 72 runs at Pune, Australia captain, George Bailey, won the toss and chose to bat in the second one at Jaipur.. His decision was well supported by his batsmen as Australia’s Top five batsmen went on to score individual half-centuries. Aaron Finch (50), Phil Hughes (83), Shane Watson (59), Bailey (92*) and Glenn Maxwell (53) were predominant in Australia scoring 359-5 in 50 overs.

With bowling figures of 9-0-73-2, R Vinay Kumar was the pick of the bowlers for India. Chasing 360 runs to win wasn’t impossible or something that hadn’t happened in the past. It was just that it required a monumental effort from the Indian batsmen.

India started on a positive note, scoring 69-0 in the first 10 overs. Continuing their run, Rohit Sharma and Dhawan scored another 59 runs in the next 10 overs. What was important that India hadn’t lost any wicket and were scoring runs at more than a run rate of 6 runs per over.

Australia got their first wicket in the 27th over when Dhawan (95) edged a James Faulkner delivery behind the wickets to Brad Haddin. But, what followed was not thought of. Virat Kohli came out warmed out from the dressing room at scored the fastest individual hundred by an Indian batsman in ODIs.

India achieved the target in 43.3 overs. Kohli scored a blistering hundred, his 16th in ODIs, 100* (52), with the help of eight fours and seven sixes. On the other hand, Man-of-the-Match Rohit Sharma had remained unbeaten on 141 (123). His innings was comprised of 17 fours and four sixes. Watch the full video:
