Zaheer Khan, who is known for his efforts with the ball, had it in him to use the long handle of the bat towards the end of the innings. The left-arm fast-medium bowler had did the same for India on several occasions.
One of his cameos with the bat came during the third ODI of Zimbabwe’s tour of India in 2000 at Jodhpur. Coming in to bat at No. 10 in the 47th over, Zaheer Khan hit four sixes in the last over of the innings, which was bowled by Henry Olonga.
Zaheer’s brilliance with the bat came after Sachin Tendulkar scored his 27th ODI hundred, 146 (153), with the help of 15 fours and two sixes. Zaheer’s efforts enabled India to score 283-8 in 50 overs. However, as luck would have it, India ended up losing the match by 1 wicket as Zimbabwe chased down the target on the penultimate delivery of the match.
