Virat Kohli’s sudden retirement from Test cricket has sparked emotional reactions across the cricketing world. For many fans and experts alike, it came as a jolt — a premature curtain call to a red-ball career that was nothing short of iconic. Since his debut in 2011, Kohli has carried India’s Test batting with unmatched intensity, aggression, and elegance, making his departure tough to digest for those who expected more from him in the whites.

“Sir, why did you retire? You made a mistake. I used to watch Test matches only for you. Now I won’t watch cricket anymore,” said the fan, voicing the sentiment of countless supporters who saw Kohli as the face of India’s red-ball resilience.

Though Virat Kohli has stepped away from Test cricket, he continues to feature in white-ball formats and remains a key figure in the IPL. As the tournament resumes following a ten-day pause due to the political situation, Kohli is expected to return in action for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with the same hunger and drive that defines his cricket.

In IPL 2025, Kohli has once again shown his dominance with the bat, scoring 505 runs from 11 innings. He is currently second on the Orange Cap list, trailing just behind Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav, who has 510 runs. With RCB set to face Kolkata Knight Riders on May 17 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Kohli will look to reclaim the top spot and continue his run-scoring spree in what could be his most determined campaign yet.
