Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk provided Delhi Capitals (DC) with a flying start in their chase of 164 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025 clash at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 30. The opening pair wasted no time, putting together a rapid 81-run stand off just 55 balls, setting the perfect platform for DC.

While Fraser-McGurk played his shots aggressively, du Plessis anchored the innings with his signature class and power-hitting. The South African veteran looked in sublime touch, reaching a blistering half-century in no time.

However, SRH finally got a breakthrough in the 10th over, thanks to young leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari. Bowling a tossed-up delivery, Ansari lured du Plessis into a big heave over midwicket. The veteran batter took the bait, swinging with full force, but the ball soared high rather than long.

Wiaan Mulder, stationed at deep midwicket, sprinted in and completed a spectacular running catch, leaving du Plessis stunned. The DC opener had to walk back after a whirlwind knock of 50 off just 27 balls, laced with three fours and three massive sixes.

Despite losing Faf du Plessis, DC remained in a strong position, thanks to their aggressive start. With Fraser-McGurk still at the crease, the chase was well on track for the Capitals.

The batting collapse continued, and SRH struggled to post a competitive total. Despite their reputation for aggressive batting, they were bundled out for just 163 in 18.4 overs, well below their initial target of 180.

Before the match, SRH skipper Pat Cummins emphasized the importance of setting a big total in the afternoon heat. “We batted the opposition out of the game last year; hope to do that today,” he said, confirming one change—Zeeshan replacing Simarjeet. Meanwhile, DC’s Axar Patel stressed an aggressive approach. “You have to be brave against SRH, especially in the powerplay. Bowl like it’s the death overs,” he said, announcing Rahul’s inclusion in place of Rizvi.
