As the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup reaches its decisive stage, the England cricket team and the India national cricket team are set to lock horns in a high-stakes semi-final at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Interestingly, this will be the third consecutive T20 World Cup edition in which the two sides have met in the knockout stage, continuing a rivalry that has intensified since the 2022 tournament. However, England had a brief scare ahead of the clash during a training session at Wankhede.

Will Jacks
Will Jacks has been doing well for England

Star all-rounder Will Jacks was struck on the front of his helmet while batting in the nets. Fortunately for England, the impact did not result in any serious injury, and Jacks quickly brushed off the incident and continued training. The bowler responsible for the delivery has not been identified, but the England camp will be relieved that their in-form all-rounder remains fit for the crucial encounter.

Will Jacks has been one of England’s standout performers in the ongoing tournament. The dynamic all-rounder has delivered consistently with both bat and ball, playing a key role in England’s run to the semi-finals. His ability to contribute in multiple departments has made him a vital asset for the team, particularly in pressure situations.

So far in the tournament, Jacks has scored 191 runs in seven matches at an impressive strike rate of 176.85, including a crucial half-century. Batting mostly in the middle order, often at No.7, he has produced several impactful cameos that shifted the momentum in England’s favour. With the ball, the off-spinner has also chipped in effectively, picking up seven wickets while maintaining a respectable economy rate.

Jacks’ off-spin could prove particularly significant against India. The Indian batting line-up features several left-handers, including opener Abhishek Sharma, who has struggled against off-spin during this tournament. England may even consider giving Jacks the new ball to exploit that matchup early in the innings.

Another advantage for Jacks is his familiarity with Wankhede’s conditions. Having played for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, he understands how the surface behaves under lights.

Reports suggest the semi-final could be played on the same pitch used during India’s opening match against the United States national cricket team, which offered slower bounce and assistance for spinners. If the surface behaves similarly again, England’s spin options — particularly Jacks — could pose a serious challenge for India’s batting unit.
