Rahul Dravid could be set for a return to international coaching, with reports linking the former India head coach to England’s vacant Test job after Brendon McCullum was removed from the red-ball role. According to recent reports, the England and Wales Cricket Board has begun looking for a new Test coach while McCullum continues to lead England’s white-ball sides under his contract.

Dravid, who most recently coached India, remains one of the most respected figures in world cricket after guiding the team to the final of the ICC World Test Championship and helping them win the 2024 T20 World Cup.

A report cited by PTI and later picked up by Indian outlets said Dravid is among the names under consideration, though he is not believed to be keen on a full-time coaching commitment. The same report added that a Test-only role could appeal to him because it would leave more time at home.

Former England coach Andy Flower is also seen as a leading contender. Flower previously enjoyed a highly successful spell with England, during which the team won three Ashes series and rose to the top of the Test rankings. Other names mentioned in reports include Richard Dawson, Andrew Flintoff, Mike Hesson and Justin Langer.

ECB chief executive Richard Gould has indicated that the board is already working with a shortlist of candidates and that flexibility will be important in modern cricket, where coaches often balance international and franchise duties.

He also suggested the board may need to rethink how coaching teams are structured across formats in an increasingly packed calendar. For now, there has been no official confirmation from the ECB on Dravid’s candidacy, but the growing speculation has already made him one of the biggest names in the race to succeed McCullum.
