New Zealand batter Will Young shared how he negated Ravindra Jadeja’s threat during the third Test against India at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, New Zealand registered a massive series win over India in the Test series as they whitewashed the hosts 0-3, the first for India on their home soil as well.
Young also played a key role for New Zealand in their historic maiden triumph on Indian soil and won the Player of the Series. During the third Test in Mumbai, he played important knocks of 71 and 51 helping his team stay in the match as well.

“It was just this one particular passage of play [in Mumbai] where Jadeja had brought mid-off up. Most of the series he’d had him back because he was quite comfortable for the right-handers to try to push the ball into the off side and bring the slips into play. But this particular passage of play, Jadeja and Rohit had decided to bring mid-off up,” he was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
Further, he also mentioned his plans to attack Jadeja if the ball bounced within his reach and he again shared that he was backed by Daryl Mitchell too. However, Young finished as the third-highest run-getter of the series with 244 runs to his name from three matches at an average of 48.80 with two fifties as well.

“And I just felt that if the ball was full enough, I could try to reach it and smother the spin and get it over the top straight. And I had a chat to Daryl Mitchell about it in between overs and he said, ‘Yeah, mate, just back yourself’. He said make sure you stay down through the shot or something along those lines. He’s obviously very good at it [hitting down the ground] himself. So when the opportunity arose, I took it and then the fielder went back and I could keep on playing from there,” he concluded.
