Wisden Almanack Names Virat Kohli the ODI Cricketer Of The 2010s

Wisden Almanack has named India captain Virat Kohli the ODI cricketer of the 2010s. He has made more than 11,000 runs in that time period, averaging over 60 and smashing 42 centuries as well. However, the decade started with him winning the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, and then the Champions Trophy title after two years where he was the top scorer in the final. Overall five global ICC 50-over tournaments in the decade, both Kohli and India reached the semi-final stage.

However, apart from Kohli, England all-rounder Ben Stokes has been named Wisden’s Leading Cricketer in the World in 2020 as well. West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder, Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan, England’s Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley, and Kent’s 44-yr old Darren Stevens have been included as the Five Cricketers of the Year. Meanwhile, West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard was awarded the leading T20I cricketer in the world as well.

On the other hand, Australian women cricketer Beth Mooney has been named as the leading women cricketer.

Earlier in the year, Virat Kohli was awarded the ICC Male Cricketer of the Decade and the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Decade as well. Apart from this, he was also named the captain of ICC’s Test Team of the Decade. Notably, in 2019, he had surpassed former India captain MS Dhoni to become India’s most successful Test captain as well after convincingly win the Test series against West Indies and with that, he had won his 28th Test as India captain as well.

“My only intention was to make winning contributions for the team and I just strive to do that in every game. Stats just become the byproduct of what you want to do on the field,” Virt Kohli had said after winning the award.
