Wishes Poured In As Ravi Shastri Is Celebrating His 59th Birthday

The Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri is celebrating his 59th birthday on Thursday, and wishes started pouring in from all parts of the world on social media. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) led the wishes on Twitter by sharing some of the career highlights of the former India captain.

India’s deputy skipper on Tests, Ajinkya Rahane hailed Shastri for uplifting the spirits of the team on and off the field. Rahane had tweeted, “Happy Birthday, Ravi Bhai. May you keep uplifting our spirits both on and off the field. Wish you the best of years ahead.”

On teh other hand, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli tweeted, “Happy b’day Ravi bhai . Have a good one”.

The veteran Indian fast bowler, Ishant Sharma posted a picture with Shastri to extend his birthday wishes for Team India’s head coach. In his tweet, Ishant said, “Wishing you a very Happy Birthday Ravi Bhai!! Best wishes to you on this day, praying for your good health, wealth & happiness!! Have a good one! @RaviShastriOfc.”

Ravi Shastri made his Test debut in 1981 against New Zealand. He scored 3830 runs in 80 Tests with teh help of 11 centuries and 12 half-centuries. He has 151 wickets under his belt in Tests. Ravi Shastri scored 3108 runs in 150 ODIs with 4 centuries and 18 half-centuries. In ODIs, Shastri also took 129 wickets from his spin bowling.

Shastri first joined the Indian team in 2007 as a manager and he also served as the director of Team India till 2014-16. In 2017, he was made the head coach of the Indian team. Ravi Shastri has taken the Indian team to a new level during his coaching stint. In 2018-19, under Shastri, India won the Test series by defeating Australia 2–1 which was their maiden won Down Under. Later, on the Australian tour of 2020-21, India managed to retain the trophy with another 2-1 win.

In August 2019, Shastri was retained as Team India head coach for a two-year period, ending with the 2021 T20 World Cup in India.
