In the last couple of years, whenever the Indian skipper Virat Kohli comes out to bat, it seems that he is there to break a record and a similar thing happened at the Ageas Bowl, on Friday. Team India is currently locking horns with England in the penultimate Test of the five-match series in Southampton. He started his innings with his trademark drive right in his second delivery and soon he achieved the feat of becoming the fastest Indian batsman to surpass the tally of 6000 runs in Test cricket.
The classy stroke-maker walked to the crease when the team was in a bit of a bother. However, Kohli along with Cheteshwar Pujara avoided further hiccups for India during the first session of the Day two at The Ageas Bowl. The Indian skipper added yet another feather in his already illustrious hat. However, reaching 6000 is quite a special thing to achieve in the Test cricket.

Kohli achieved the landmark two innings earlier than the legendary Sunil Gavaskar as he surpassed the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and many more Indian legends regarding being fastest to the 6000 runs in Test cricket. In world cricket, Virat is the ninth quickest batsman to reach 6000 runs in the Test format. Meanwhile, in one of those surprising stats, he reached from 5000 to 6000 Test runs in the span of just 14 innings.
Least innings to score 6,000 Test runs among Indians:
117 – Sunil Gavaskar
119 – VIRAT KOHLI*
120 – Sachin Tendulkar
123 – Virender Sehwag
125 – Rahul Dravid #ENGvIND— Umang Pabari (@UPStatsman) August 31, 2018
However, in the ongoing series, Kohli is the leading run-scorer of the series as well. Additionally, he already scored a couple of hundreds and crucial fifties to lift the side from precarious situations. In ongoing Test, Virat was dismissed on the individual score of 46 by Sam Curran.
However, as soon as Virat Kohli completed the 6000 Test runs, people took Twitter by a storm to wish their cricketing hero a hearty congratulations. Here are the best tweets:
