Women’s Hockey Team Registers Historic Win In Olympics, Twitter Reacts

Indian women hockey team made history in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics by reaching the semifinals of field hockey for the first time in history. They defeated hot-favourite Australia by 1-0 to book a place in the last four. Indian cricketing fraternity was overjoyed by seeing the success of the women’s hockey team.

Former cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman, Mohammad Kaif and Wasim Jaffer took it to Twitter and congratulated Rani Rampal’s team.

Gurjeet Kaur scored the only goal of the quarterfinal in the first quarter and India’s defence successfully prevented Australia from scoring the equalizer for the next three quarters.

“Yesterday the men’s hockey team, today the women’s hockey team… Absolutely loving it. Well done to the women’s team for making it to the #Olympics semi-finals for the first time ever! The whole nation is behind you!” tweeted Sachin Tendulkar.

“Way to go Indian Women’s Hockey Team defeats Australia to reach the semi-finals of Olympics 2020,” wrote Harbhajan Singh.

“Grit. Determination. Belief. Our women’s hockey team is weaving a golden chapter in our history. A performance for the ages that seals the semifinal berth. Well done, girls,” tweeted Mohammad Kaif.

“Our girls have created history. Beaten #AUS in the quarter-final match of women’s #hockey by 1-0 to seal their spot in SEMI-FINAL for the first time ever! Best wishes for the semis,” wrote VVS Laxman.

India’s women team managed to turn the table around after losing their first three league matches. In their last two league games, India overcame Ireland and South Africa to make it to the quarterfinals, where they were up against the Australian challenge.

However, against all odds, Indian girls showed good composure and grit to make history in Tokyo by reaching their first-ever semi-finals of the Olympics history, where they will be up against Argentina.

Earlier, India’s men team also reached the semis after defeating Great Britain in the quarterfinal.
