Women’s IPL will be a reality in next two-three Years says CoA Chief

Pertaining to the rising demands for taking up the cause of Women’s IPL, BCCI has announced a decision that will make the fans happy. BCCI will organize a T20 exhibition match for women cricketers on May 22, before the first playoff at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The match will adhere to the IPL playing conditions. Each team will thus include four foreign players in each team, and this match is seen as an experimental for the women’s IPL in the future. The match will start at 2.30pm and will be broadcast live on Star Sports.

The Indian Cricket Authorities announced that women cricketers from Australia, England, and South Africa will be taking part in the exhibition match. They will be divided into the teams and the match will be played between BCCI XI and IPL XI.

The women’s IPL is expected to formed sooner which will immensely help the cause of uplifting women’s cricket. Vinod Rai, the head of the Committee of Administrators of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), updated about the same. “We are planning to get a women’s IPL in place in two to three years”, Rai was quoted as saying in News 18.

Speaking about the exhibition match, Rai told Indian Express, “This is being staged as a well-deserved exhibition to showcase the tremendous depth and capability that women’s cricket in India has achieved. We see it build into a women’s IPL tournament in a couple of years.”

Another CoA member Diana Edulji added, “The idea was to promote women’s cricket and keep the momentum going. This is just to start and show that we can have a women’s IPL from next season. It’s just a thought. The IPL GC have sanctioned this exhibition game and now at least we will come to know the mood around women’s cricket.”
