The schedule for the 2027 ODI World Cup is set to be unveiled in Cape Town on Thursday, according to a report by Cricbuzz. The announcement will come exactly one year before the tournament, with the International Cricket Council (ICC) also opening registrations for the ticket ballot for fans.

The 2027 ODI World Cup is expected to begin on Saturday, October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, and will conclude on Sunday, November 21. South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will host the tournament, although Namibia’s place in the competition is yet to be confirmed.

The qualification picture will become clearer after Wednesday’s cut-off date. Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe are guaranteed places, while eight teams are expected to secure qualification through the ICC ODI rankings. The remaining four spots will be decided through the qualification tournament.

As things stand, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in line to qualify through the rankings. Bangladesh are currently ninth but are set to make the cut because South Africa, who occupy third place, qualify automatically as hosts.

The West Indies, meanwhile, face a different route to the 2027 ODI World Cup. They are currently involved in an ODI series against India and will need to go through the qualifiers to secure their place in the tournament.

The ICC will also launch the ticket ballot on Thursday. Fans will not be able to purchase tickets immediately, but they can register their interest through the ballot process.

The 2027 ODI World Cup will feature a three-stage format before the semi-finals and final. The tournament will begin with a Super Series involving the three lowest-ranked teams among the 14 qualifiers.
