Speaking at the post-match press conference, Bavuma said, “We’ve kind of said as a team, it was our chat in our camp at Arindale, that we like to judge ourselves after three, four years as a group. Take stock there and see where we’re at. It’s a lovely thing that we have this mace as part of our journey, but in terms of leaving a legacy, we understand that we are not leaving a legacy behind after 2 years.”

While speaking on what the next target for South Africa, Temba Bavuma said how he wanted to see his side get wins in the subcontinent and establish a dominant legacy like that of Graeme Smith and his legendary team in his leadership as well.

“Yes, we’ve created history, but as a group, we’d like to emulate, if not do better than, what Graeme and his team did. They’ve set the standard, and I don’t think anyone has reached that standard as of yet,” he shared. “So in 3-4 years, as a group, in 2027, I’d like us to be in a position where we go to Pakistan, go to India have victories there and do a lot more.”

“We’ve only had two years but he has generated a lot of success in that two years, something we don’t look past but I think from a longevity point of view to get the respect out there as a Test team, we’d like to see where we are in another two years,” Temba Bavuma concluded.

The last time South Africa beat Team India in an away Test was way back in 2010 at Nagpur, while their last away win over Pakistan was in 2013 in the Test at Dubai as well.
