The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has been unique in many ways. Still, one major way that the tournament has managed to protrude is its strong representation of women’s empowerment. The tournament also managed to garner a lot of eyeballs by announcing free entry for women in the stadiums on matchdays throughout the competition.

With Women’s Day less than 24 hours away, the tournament recently announced free entry for everyone during match 6. The match will be played between Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Brabourne Stadium on March 8.  Thus, in solidarity with the women’s fraternity, WPL brought everyone together to celebrate womanhood on a special day.

The news was announced during the fourth match of the tournament between RCB and MI, which was also confirmed by WPL through their social media platforms. “A Special Way to mark a Special Day! #TATAWPL celebrates Women’s Day with Free entry for all for the #GGvRCB match on March 8, 2023!” WPL posted on Instagram.

One of the most popular franchises, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has one of the strongest squads in the WPL. With stars like Ellyse Perry, Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and Richa Ghosh in the ranks, the team was destined for greatness. However, that has not been the case so far, as the RCB has found themselves on the receiving end in both of their matches so far.

RCB suffered back-to-back losses against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. RCB had a feeble show with the ball and on both occasions, the batters seemed to get crushed under their own heap of expectations.

Skipper Smriti Mandhana will be looking to come up with a solution for their continued struggle, and that too quickly if they want to have any chance of progressing further in the competition. After losing the first two matches, they will next take on Gujarat Giants on March 8 and will hope to tap on Beth Mooney’s absence to open their account. Gujarat have also been struggling and will be raring to clinch their first win of the season.
