Saha has been facing some critical injury concerns since the tour of South Africa and had returned early to nurture his hamstring. During the IPL 2018, Saha suffered a thumb injury that kept him out of the one-off Test against Afghanistan in June as well.

However, later, it as discovered that Wriddhiman was carrying a shoulder injury that ruled him out of contention for the tour of England. It was reliably learned that Saha’s injury was thought to be a minor one during the South African tour, but the rehabilitation process at the NCA had aggravated his injury further.

A senior BCCI official, speaking to Cricketnext, had said Saha could require anything between six to eight months before he is can return to action. There are certain chances that he will be fit in time for the tour to Australia that starts later in the year in November.

In Saha’s absence, Dinesh Karthik is keeping wickets for India with 20-year old Rishabh Pant selected as his back-up. Wriddhiman has played 32 Tests in his international career so far, scoring 1164 runs with three centuries. He has taken 75 catches and effected 10 stumpings.

Team India is currently locking horns with England in the first Test of the five-match series at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Indian skipper Virat Kohli lost the toss and was asked to bowl first by the English captain Joe Root on a moist wicket with a cloud cover as well. However, the visitors ended Day 1 on a positive note with the English team struggling at 285 for 9.
