The World Test Championship Final between India and New Zealand was in the balance at the end of day five. India were two down while they had a 32-run lead and a collapse could turn the match in New Zealand’s favour. That’s what exactly happened on day six as Indian batsmen kept getting out playing bad shots.
Chasing 139 runs to win the WTC Final, New Zealand got off to a steady start before Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed both opener, Tom Latham and Devon Conway, in no time and gave India a sniff to make a stunning comeback.
Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor were new batsmen on the crease and Indian bowlers were breathing fire. Mohammed Shami and Ashwin kept both ends tight and were not giving any breathing space to batsmen.
Amidst, Ravindra Jadeja stunned everyone with his fake celebration when he was fielding during the fourth innings. Taylor was new at the crease and wasn’t middling the ball well. He played a fine cut shot towards the point, where Jadeja made a good save. As soon as he grabbed the ball, he threw it in the air and acted like he grabbed a fine catch. It made fans happy but it was short-lived.

At the start of the sixth day, India were needed to bat deep and score runs. A collapse was all New Zealand were targeting. Virat Kohli was looking comfortable before playing a false shot off Kyle Jamieson. Cheteshwar Pujara was outdone by Jamieson’s bounce. Ajinkya Rahane couldn’t shoulder the burden at this big moment and got tangled playing the glace down the leg.
Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja looked threatening but Neil Wagner’s irresistible bouncer barrage put Jadeja off before he nicked a good-length ball to BJ Watling. Pant decided to aggressive way and perished while doing the same. The tailenders couldn’t wag and India got bundled out for 170. Tim Southee grabbed four wickets while Jamieson was the star with three wickets. New Zealand were set to chase 139 runs to win the inaugural World Test Championship Final.
