The IPL 2026 clash between the Punjab Kings and the Gujarat Titans in New Chandigarh lived up to expectations, delivering a gripping contest filled with tactical battles and moments of brilliance. After winning the toss, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to field first, a decision that paid off as his bowlers restricted Gujarat to 162/6 in 20 overs.

The turning point of the innings came in the 16th over when Jos Buttler attempted to accelerate. Facing Yuzvendra Chahal, Buttler stepped out to launch a big hit towards long-on. The shot looked destined for the stands, but Xavier Bartlett produced a moment of magic.
Timing his leap perfectly near the boundary, he plucked a stunning catch mid-air while maintaining balance just inside the ropes. The dismissal left Buttler stranded on 38 off 33 balls and shifted momentum firmly in Punjab’s favour.

Chahal once again proved his value in the middle overs, finishing with figures of 2/28 and claiming key wickets, including Gill and Buttler. Alongside him, Vyshak Vijaykumar played a crucial role, picking up 3/34 and dismantling the Titans’ middle order by removing Glenn Phillips and Washington Sundar at critical junctures.

A late cameo from Rahul Tewatia added valuable runs, but Gujarat never quite gained full control. With a target of 163, Punjab Kings would back themselves to chase on a surface offering slight assistance to spinners. However, with world-class bowlers like Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada in the opposition ranks, the contest remains finely poised.
