Rohit Sharma’s lean patch in IPL 2025 showed no signs of easing up as the Mumbai Indians stalwart managed just 17 runs in the high-stakes clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium. Making his return to the XI after missing the previous match due to a knee niggle, Rohit had a crucial role to play as Mumbai were chasing a mammoth 222-run target.

He began brightly, lofting Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a six and following it up with consecutive boundaries off Yash Dayal in the very next over. However, Dayal had the final word. After being hit for two fours, he delivered a peach that jagged back sharply off the deck and breached Rohit’s defence to rattle the stumps. It was a delivery few could survive, but the dismissal further highlights Rohit’s ongoing struggle for consistency.

At the time of his dismissal, Mumbai were off to a decent start but soon found themselves in trouble. Josh Hazlewood removed Ryan Rickelton for 17, leaving the hosts at 38/2 in pursuit of a daunting total. Will Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav were at the crease as the scoreboard read 52/2 after five overs.

Earlier in the evening, RCB posted a commanding 221/5, thanks to fifties from Virat Kohli (67) and skipper Rajat Patidar (64). Jitesh Sharma added the finishing touches with an explosive 40* off just 19 balls.

Rohit’s form this season has been a major concern. After starting his campaign with a duck against CSK, he has followed it up with low scores of 8, 13, and now 17. With the tournament heating up, Rohit will be under pressure to step up and produce the kind of match-winning innings that have defined his legacy.
