Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clinched a convincing 33-run victory against Gujarat Titans in an enthralling IPL encounter at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Yash Thakur’s exceptional performance, claiming his maiden IPL five-for, played a pivotal role in defending a target of 164 on a competitive pitch.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, LSG rode on Marcus Stoinis’s brilliant 58 off 43 deliveries, supported by crucial contributions from Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni, to post 163/5 in their allotted 20 overs. However, the Titans started their chase energetically, with Mayank Yadav introduced into the attack during the powerplay. Unfortunately, he could only bowl one over before retiring with a side strain.

In the wake of Yadav’s departure, Yash Thakur seized the opportunity, claiming the crucial wicket of Shubman Gill in the sixth over, triggering a collapse in the Titans’ batting lineup. His exceptional spell of 5/30 in 3.5 overs derailed the opposition, ultimately bowling them out for 130. Reflecting on his stellar performance, Thakur shared the motivating words from skipper KL Rahul after Yadav’s injury.
“Rahul sir told me that this could be my day and that I could win the game for the side. He advised me to trust my abilities and focus on what I can control,” Yash Thakur revealed during the post-match press conference.
Despite bowling at a medium pace, Yash Thakur’s strategic variations in length and adept use of the crease kept the Titans’ batsmen guessing. He emphasized the importance of understanding his strengths and limitations, focusing solely on executing his plans effectively.
