Star India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has taken his Asia Cup snub in stride, stressing that selection is all about team combinations and timing. Despite not finding a place in India’s 15-member squad for the tournament in the UAE, the young left-hander said he is focused on improving himself rather than dwelling on missed opportunities.

India’s Test captain Shubman Gill returned to the squad and was appointed vice-captain, a move that pushed Sanju Samson down the batting order and saw Jaiswal relegated to the standby list. The 22-year-old has already represented India in 23 T20Is, amassing 723 runs at a strong average of 36.15 and a strike rate of 164.31, underlining his immense potential.

Speaking on Mashable India, Yashasvi Jaiswal said: “I don’t think about selection too much. It’s all in the hands of selectors, who decide based on combinations. My job is to keep working on myself and give my best. When my time comes, things will fall into place.”

The left-hander also reflected on one of the highlights of his career so far—scoring a century in front of his parents during the England tour. “That was a special moment for me. I always had the belief that I would do something big, and I will never stop working hard,” he added.

Jaiswal, who was part of India’s triumphant 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, called the victory one of his ultimate dreams. “Winning the World Cup was truly special. The reception we got in India was unforgettable,” he recalled.

Recently, Jaiswal featured in the Duleep Trophy for West Zone, scoring 4 and 64 in two innings. On the England tour earlier this year, he impressed with two half-centuries and two hundreds across four Tests, with his only setback coming at Lord’s where he managed 13 and 0.
