India’s rising batting star Yashasvi Jaiswal was hospitalised on Tuesday after being diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis, just hours after featuring in Mumbai’s high-scoring Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League clash against Rajasthan in Pune. According to a report by The Indian Express, the left-hander experienced severe stomach cramps following the match, which worsened as the night progressed, prompting his admission to the Aditya Birla Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Jaiswal, who scored 15 runs off 16 deliveries in the contest, was placed under medical observation and administered intravenous medication. The report added that ultrasound and CT scans were conducted as a precaution, following which doctors advised the 22-year-old to continue medication and take adequate rest.

While there is no immediate cause for alarm, the incident comes at a time when Jaiswal has been juggling a heavy workload across formats. The Mumbai opener has enjoyed a productive domestic season so far.

In the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he has accumulated 145 runs from three matches at an impressive average of 48.33 and a strike rate of 168.60, underlining his growing maturity in the shortest format.  Prior to the tournament, Jaiswal was in red-hot form during India’s ODI series against South Africa, where he piled up 156 runs in three matches at a remarkable average of 78, further strengthening his case as a multi-format mainstay.

Despite Jaiswal’s early exit, Mumbai produced a breathtaking run chase to overpower Rajasthan by three wickets in their Super League Group B encounter. Veteran Ajinkya Rahane led from the front with a composed unbeaten 72 off 41 balls, striking seven fours and three sixes to anchor the innings.

However, it was Sarfaraz Khan who provided the fireworks, hammering a sensational 73 off just 22 deliveries, an innings studded with six fours and seven towering sixes. Chasing a daunting 217, Mumbai never lost momentum despite wickets falling at regular intervals.

After Jaiswal and Rahane added 41 for the opening stand, Rahane and Sarfaraz stitched together a stunning 111-run partnership off just 39 balls for the second wicket, completely tilting the game. Mumbai eventually overhauled the target with 11 balls to spare, reaffirming their batting depth and intent in pressure situations.
