Former India player Sunil Gavaskar feels that RR batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is ready for an Indian team call-up and he should be given a chance to perform in international cricket. Jaiswal has had a stunning season in the IPL this year for the Royals and has caught the eye of everyone with his batting performances while opening the batting. The 21-year-old scored the fastest fifty in the history of the IPL as well at the Eden Gardens against KKR a few days ago and again shared a new record to his name with his fifty against PBKS on Friday as well.

However, Jaiswal became the uncapped player with the most runs in a single edition of the IPL as well, breaking the record set by Shaun Marsh. He has scored 625 runs from 14 matches at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61 as well. Many feel that the youngster should be in line for an Indian team call-up and Gavaskar said that the way Yashasvi Jaiswal has batted this season has made him happy and he further added that he is ready to make a mark in international cricket.
“If a batter scores 40-50 runs in T20 in 20-25 balls, he has done well for the team. But if he’s an opener, you’d want him to play 15 overs,” said Gavaskar. “If he scores a century by the time, your team total would easily cross the 190-200 mark. That’s why, the way Yashasvi has batted this season and has made me very happy. He’s a technical batter as well. I think he’s ready and should be given a chance.”
“When a player is in form, and then he gets the chance, his confidence is also skyrocketed. Especially in an international debut, there’s always doubt, ‘Am I ready for international standard?’ If your form isn’t good at the time, your doubt increases. So, it’s important to be in form at that time,” concluded Sunil Gavaskar.
