“It’s been nice and challenging as well. I’ve been trying to learn how to play on different wickets and make sure that I stay for a long time. It’s been one year with the Indian team, have had a lot of talk with Rahul sir and Rohit bhai on how to change my mindset,” Yashasvi Jaiswal shared in an interview with broadcaster JioCinema.

Despite the early departure of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his mettle by notching up his fourth fifty-plus score in the ongoing series against England. His performance in the series has been nothing short of spectacular, crossing the 600-run mark in just seven innings across four Tests. With an impressive average of 103 and a formidable strike rate of 78.32, including two centuries and two half-centuries, Jaiswal has emerged as India’s latest batting sensation.

In achieving this milestone, Yashasvi Jaiswal joins a select group of Indian cricketing legends, including Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, Dilip Sardesai, and Rahul Dravid, who have previously breached the 600-run mark in a Test series. With the tantalizing prospect of surpassing Gavaskar’s legendary record of 774 runs against West Indies in 1971, Jaiswal stands on the cusp of etching his name in cricketing folklore.

Notably, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s audacious stroke-play has seen him surpass Virender Sehwag’s record for the most Test sixes by an Indian batter in a calendar year, with 23 sixes in just five matches in 2024. Additionally, he is on the verge of crossing the prestigious 1000-run milestone in Test cricket, having amassed 934 runs at an impressive average of 71.84.

Despite the challenges posed by the pitch, Jaiswal remains undeterred, focusing on his batting technique and strategy. As he gears up for the day’s play, Jaiswal exudes confidence and determination, eager to contribute to his team’s success.

“I didn’t find a lot of difficulties (on this pitch), I was looking to think as to how I was going to bat, initially there was a lot of spin, so I was looking to get my bat in front of my pad, keep rotating the strike and find the boundaries,” Yashasvi Jaiswal remarked. “Looking forward to today, we’ll enjoy the game and give our best,” he added, encapsulating his positive outlook and commitment to the game.
