Jaiswal, who crafted a fluent 101 off 159 deliveries, revealed how Gill’s composed presence at the crease helped him stay focused and enjoy the moment. The duo added 129 runs for the third wicket, guiding India safely through the second session after early breakthroughs.

“We were talking a lot in the middle, trying to take it session by session, and score as many runs as we could. The chemistry between us was fantastic,” Yashasvi Jaiswal said at the post-day press conference. “It was amazing to bat with Shubman. The way he batted—so calm, so composed—was a big help for me. I really enjoyed it.”

Asked about his approach to the innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal emphasized the importance of reading the game situation. “The plan was simple—punish the bad balls and play to the field. I was focused on adapting to England’s field placements and the areas they were bowling in. My mindset was to bat according to the needs of the team,” he explained.

Coming off a successful IPL season, Jaiswal transitioned into the red-ball format by participating in two India A matches against the England Lions and an intra-squad game in Beckenham. He credited these outings for sharpening his mindset.

“Every stage of cricket presents its own challenges. I try to trust my process and stick to my mindset. Mental switching is vital—knowing how to adapt to the environment and pressure,” said the 23-year-old.

Yashasvi Jaiswal also experienced cramps during his innings but managed to push through, acknowledging the role of head coach Gautam Gambhir. “I had cramps in both hands but pushed through. Our preparation with India A and the intra-squad games helped. Gautam sir gave us valuable insights, especially about converting starts into big scores,” he noted.
