Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his impressive run in red-ball cricket, notching up his sixth Test century on Day 3 of the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval. The elegant left-hander from Mumbai etched his name in the record books, becoming the sixth Indian opener—and the ninth Indian overall—to register a Test hundred at the iconic venue.

Jaiswal brought up the milestone shortly after lunch, showing great composure throughout his innings. In the 51st over, he calmly guided a back-of-length delivery from Gus Atkinson behind square on the off-side and jogged a single to bring up his ton. What followed was a heartfelt celebration—helmet off, gloves removed, blowing kisses to the dressing room, and shaping a heart with his hands in gratitude.
Earlier in the morning, it was nightwatchman Akash Deep who stole the show. Resuming on 4, Akash displayed fearless intent, smashing Jacob Bethell for a boundary over mid-wicket in the day’s very first over.

The fast bowler continued to bat aggressively, especially targeting Gus Atkinson, against whom he brought up his maiden Test fifty with a calculated slog. His gutsy innings, however, came to an end when Jamie Overton bowled a well-directed short delivery that rose sharply and caught Akash awkwardly, resulting in a catch at point.

By lunch, India were comfortably placed at 189/3, with a 107-run stand between Jaiswal and Akash laying a strong foundation. England’s bowling attack, already weakened by Chris Woakes’ shoulder injury, struggled for penetration. Their fielding didn’t help either—Zak Crawley spilled a regulation chance at third slip off Josh Tongue.

The surface on Day 3 offered little assistance to bowlers. While Akash counterattacked with fearless shots, Jaiswal was calm and methodical, occasionally flashing his flair—his ramp shot off Overton stood out as a cheeky stroke of brilliance.
