Yashasvi Jaiswal found his groove just in time as he delivered a classy half-century to anchor Rajasthan Royals’ innings against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday, April 13. After a few inconsistent outings, the young left-hander finally stamped his authority at the top with a fluent knock that laid the platform for a strong total.

The tournament hadn’t started brightly for Jaiswal, who came into this game under a bit of pressure. He began IPL 2025 with a disappointing score of 1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, followed by a 29 against Kolkata Knight Riders where he failed to convert his start. A meagre 4-run outing against Chennai Super Kings only added to the frustration.

His form briefly returned with a promising 67-run knock against Punjab Kings, offering a glimpse of his potential. However, that momentum didn’t last long, as he fell cheaply for 6 in the next game versus Gujarat Titans. But on Sunday, Jaiswal showed a mix of patience and timing to make it count.

Opening the innings with skipper Sanju Samson after RCB chose to bowl first, the duo gave the Rajasthan Royals a steady platform. While the scoring rate wasn’t explosive during the powerplay, they ensured a wicketless start — something the Royals had been craving. Their 49-run opening stand ended when Samson fell to Krunal Pandya for 15.

Jaiswal, however, capitalized on his start. He brought up his fifty in the 13th over with a single off Krunal and followed it with a light-hearted moment — a nod to his captain’s iconic celebration. He raised his arm in a ‘flexing bicep’ gesture, paying tribute to Sanju Samson’s trademark style, which was first seen back in 2020 after a half-century against Mumbai Indians.

Samson had once quipped it was a reminder that “Samson is the strongest man in the world.” At the time of writing, Rajasthan Royals were cruising at 126/2 in the 16th over. Jaiswal was batting on an impressive 75*, looking well-set for a big score, while Dhruv Jurel was at the crease on 2*.
