Yashasvi Jaiswal reminded everyone of his batting ability with a magnificent unbeaten 155 for India A against New Zealand A in the second unofficial Test at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on Tuesday (November 3). After registering a duck in the first innings, the left-handed opener bounced back emphatically to silence his critics ahead of India’s upcoming Test series against New Zealand.

Jaiswal struck 15 fours and five sixes during his 162-ball stay at the crease, helping India A reach 282/2 in 52.4 overs before the match ended in a draw. The innings will provide a significant confidence boost to the Mumbai batter, who is expected to open alongside KL Rahul for the Shubman Gill-led Indian side in the two-match Test series later this month.
The 24-year-old also shared an impressive 247-run third-wicket partnership with Yash Rathod off 242 deliveries. Rathod complemented Jaiswal’s aggressive approach with a composed century, scoring 100 runs off 122 balls.

Yashasvi Jaiswal had struggled for consistency in his previous outings, managing scores of 17 and 5 in the first unofficial Test against New Zealand A in Lincoln last month. His performances across the opening three innings of the ongoing series had also attracted criticism. However, Tuesday’s outstanding display demonstrated his ability to respond under pressure.

The left-hander brought up his century in style, moving from 99 to 105 with a six off Dean Foxcroft. He continued to attack the opposition bowlers and reached the 150-run milestone in just 154 deliveries, hitting a boundary off the first ball of the 51st over, bowled by Matthew Boyle.

While Jaiswal enjoyed a memorable outing, Devdutt Padikkal endured another disappointing day. The Karnataka batter, expected to occupy the No. 3 position in India’s first Test against New Zealand at Basin Reserve, was dismissed for a golden duck in the second innings.
Padikkal was trapped by Brett Randell during the morning session on day four. His dismissal came shortly after B Sai Sudharsan was caught by Tim Robinson off Jarrod McKay in the 12th over, leaving India A with early setbacks before Jaiswal and Rathod took control.
