Yashasvi Jaiswal, the southpaw opening batsman, has taken the cricketing world by storm with his remarkable start to his international career. After consistently proving his mettle for both his domestic team, Mumbai, and the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, Jaiswal has translated his domestic success onto the grand stage of Test cricket.Currently leading the run-scorers chart in the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England, Jaiswal boasts a staggering average of 109, amassing 545 runs in just six innings.
This feat becomes even more impressive considering his strike rate of 81.10, showcasing his ability to not only score big but also score quickly. Jaiswal’s journey, however, has not been paved with gold. Leaving his birthplace in Uttar Pradesh at the tender age of 12 to chase his cricketing dreams in Mumbai, Jaiswal faced hardships on and off the field. Hailing from a humble background, he had to fight not just for cricketing opportunities but also for basic necessities.
This perseverance and resilience are now paying off. Jaiswal has joined an exclusive club of cricketers who have converted their first three Test centuries into scores exceeding 150. His most recent knock, an unbeaten 214 off 236 balls in the third innings of the third Test in Rajkot, played a pivotal role in India’s historic 434-run victory, their biggest win in terms of runs in Test cricket history.

While his maiden double century in the second Test showcased his potential, Yashasvi Jaiswal admitted to struggling in the first innings of the third Test. However, instead of succumbing to pressure, he drew inspiration from the veteran duo of Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, who stitched together a crucial partnership in the first innings.
“The way Rohit bhai and Jaddu bhai played in the first innings, that motivated me a lot,” Yashasvi Jaiswal said. “The passion was there, the talk was there, they were really determined to play session by session.“
Learning from the seasoned campaigners, Jaiswal took his time initially in the second innings, ensuring he settled in before unleashing his aggressive strokeplay. He acknowledged the challenging conditions but emphasized the importance of building a solid foundation.
