Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal reignited his rivalry with Australian youngster Sam Konstas during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday, January 4. The 23-year-old was seen sledging the 19-year-old batter during Australia’s first innings, teasing him for his cautious approach.
In a clip shared by Star Sports, Jaiswal could be heard saying, “Kya ho gaya, ab shots nahi dikh rahe kya? Oye Konstas, shot nahi lag rahe kya abhi?”

The tension between Jaiswal and Konstas traces back to the fourth Test, where the two were engaged in a heated verbal exchange. Konstas, who had impressed on debut in the Boxing Day Test with a fluent 60 off 65 balls, struggled to replicate his form at the SCG. During his 38-ball stay, he managed 23 runs with three boundaries before being dismissed by Mohammed Siraj in the 12th over.

Siraj continued his fiery spell, removing Travis Head just three balls later. Head, the leading run-scorer of the series, endured his fourth consecutive low score, managing only four runs before being caught at slip by KL Rahul.

India’s dominance was evident from the start of the day, with stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah striking early to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne. Bumrah induced a faint edge from Labuschagne’s bat, brilliantly caught by Rishabh Pant, sending the Australian star back for just two runs. This wicket marked Bumrah’s 32nd dismissal of the series, breaking Bishan Singh Bedi’s record of 31 wickets in a single overseas Test series for India, achieved during the 1977-78 series against Australia.
India’s relentless bowling attack and Jaiswal’s fiery on-field antics have added an extra layer of intensity to the series decider, keeping fans hooked as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy inches towards its dramatic conclusion.
