Yashasvi Jaiswal remains one of India’s most exciting modern-day batting talents, someone who has already shown his ability to adapt across formats despite not always getting an extended run in white-ball cricket. While he has secured his place in the Test setup with consistent performances, his limited-overs opportunities have been fewer—but every time he’s got a chance, he has delivered with admirable maturity and intent.

Jaiswal made his ODI debut in February this year, and in just four matches, he has impressed with 171 runs, including a superb unbeaten century that highlighted his ability to build an innings under pressure. In T20Is, where he first appeared in 2023, he has already racked up 723 runs at an aggressive strike rate of 164.31 across 22 innings, striking one century and five fifties.
Those numbers reflect not just potential but a player fully capable of thriving in the fast-paced demands of modern T20 cricket. Yet the competition within India’s white-ball squad has left him waiting on the sidelines more often than he’d like.

With Abhishek Sharma currently preferred at the top, and Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson rotating as his partners, breaking into the XI has become more challenging than ever. Such is the demand for spots that even Samson, India’s top T20I run-scorer in 2024, had to step aside once Gill returned to the squad. Still, Jaiswal remains grounded, patient, and driven.

Speaking at the Agenda Aaj Tak Summit, Jaiswal reaffirmed his dream of playing in the upcoming T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. “My dream is to play the T20 World Cup, but I try to focus on my game and will wait for my time,” he said, reflecting the calm determination that has defined his rise.

Beyond selection hopes, Jaiswal isn’t shy about embracing future leadership roles either. With Rajasthan Royals searching for a new captain following Sanju Samson’s move to Chennai Super Kings, the young opener is among the contenders. While he lacks captaincy experience and teammates like Ravindra Jadeja, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel may currently be ahead, Jaiswal has made it clear—if the opportunity comes, he’s ready to lead.
