Pakistan’s campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was a disappointing one as they were eliminated from the tournament early. Led by Mohammad Rizwan, the team suffered consecutive losses to New Zealand and India, leaving them on the verge of elimination. Their destiny was sealed when New Zealand beat Bangladesh to earn a semi-final spot together with India from Group A.

This was an unwanted record for Pakistan, as they became the first-ever host country to be eliminated in the group stage of the Champions Trophy. The Men in Green were severely criticized, with the greats like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis publicly expressing their discontent at the team’s performance.

The demand for an entire overhaul of the squad and domestic setup was on the rise, with critics and fans asking questions about Pakistan’s cricket setup. But among all the bashing, an unexpected offer was made by a former India pacer, Yograj Singh—He offered himself to coach the Pakistan team and assist them in rebuilding.

Singh, who is famously blunt, lashed out against former players like Akram for commenting instead of acting. “Wasim is making money as a commentator. Go to your country, make a camp of these players. Let us see which one among you can take Pakistan to win the World Cup. If you cannot, then quit.”. I will accept the job, and in one year, I’ll have a team that will make you remember me,” Yograj Singh was quoted saying by News18.

Yograj, India cricket’s son-favorite Yuvraj Singh’s dad, boasts a powerful coaching experience. He has coached various budding talents like Arjun Tendulkar, who recently broke into headlines with a ton on his debut for the

Ranji Trophy. In spite of his short stint on the international arena, he has had an impacting influence on the grassroots. Pakistan’s dismal performance has sparked controversy surrounding their home cricket setup, with even Sunil Gavaskar opining that an India ‘B’ team could beat Pakistan in their present form.
