Veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane said that Team India have missed out on a chance to give Shreyas Iyer some game time after Ishan Kishan’s niggle. Captain Suryakumar Yadav named Arshdeep Singh as
a surprise change in the playing XI for the fourth T20I in Vizag, on Wednesday, January 28 as well.

However, Team India had to make a forced change into the team due to the in-form batter’s niggle. But instead of a batter, a specialist bowler came in place.

“Unlike GG, unlike GG completely. Clearly happy to see Arshdeep SIngh in the team, but then Shreyas Iyer, you are clearly not looking at him. Without Ishan Kishan, this was a great opportunity for him to get this game and get it going because we are not sure about Tilak Varma. Clearly, they are not looking at Shreyas Iyer at this moment,” Ajinkya Rahane said on Cricbuzz.

Ajinkya Rahane shared that a player with the skill of Shreyas Iyer deserves to be in the T20I team as well.

“That is tough to digest and understand. Basically, if something like this happens in the World Cup, a batter picks up a niggle, then your back up is Shreyas Iyer, so getting him the game time, I feel, was necessary. You already have bowlers, Arshdeep, Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Hardik Pandya, two spinners, and Shivam Dube with you. Bowling wise it is okay, but I think Iyer’s inclusion was much needed in this game,” Rahane added.

“I’m not sure what is happening there, what is the communication, but even before the injury I thought he deserved a spot in the team. A guy like him, the vice-captain of the ODI team, he deserves to be in that T20I playing XI,” Ajinkya Rahane concluded.
