Team India captain Shreyas Iyer backed the management’s decision to bench Vaibhav Suryavanshi for all the matches of the T20I series against the West Indies as well. He added that both current openers are doing a good job, so the youngster will have to wait patiently for his chances as well.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Shreyas Iyer said (via Cricinfo): “So, I just keep telling him, [Vaibhav Suryavanshi] you will get your opportunities. If you’re consistent with your process, mindset a bit light and not think too much about not getting an opportunity… you have to wait sometimes. We’ve got two fantastic openers who’ve been consistent throughout.”
“Just like another day, we’re used to the travel. Not easy to recover and see to it that our routines are intact, but we’ve been doing that well. Adjusting to conditions pretty fast. As long as we’re maintaining this consistently, it’s good for the team,” he further added.

However, Shreyas Iyer said that the team’s poor bowling performance in the second and fourth T20Is against the West Indies after the series ended in a 2-2 draw as well.
“[The result] could’ve been different if we’d bowled well in 2nd and 4th game. Batting has been sensational, execution we fell short. Credit where due, they batted phenomenally well. Kudos to Shai Hope, he was superb. We weren’t able to be consistent throughout, so great learning. Even today, way we went about our batting was outstanding. Going be a challenging series in New Zealand now,” he concluded.
