Watch: Young Manipur Pacer Rex Singh Bagged 10 Wickets In An Innings

Recently, a young Manipur left-arm pacer Rex Singh achieved some rare feat that reminded us the former Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble. The 18-year-old recently claimed all ten wickets in an innings during a four-day game.

Playing against Arunachal Pradesh (AP) at Rural Development Trust Stadium (Ananthapur) in the Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 tournament, the youngster achieved the special feat during his opponent’s second innings of the game.

After winning the toss, Manipur decided to field first. With the help of Rex’s five-wicket haul in the first innings, AP was bundled out for just 138 runs. In that innings, the young left-arm pacer finished with the bowling figure of 10.5-3-33-5.

In reply, Manipur’s first innings was ended on 122 runs, thanks to the brilliant efforts of AP’s opening bowlers Govind Mittal (5/50) and D Bagra (4/25). At the end of that innings, AP got a crucial 16-run lead but the actual drama was waiting for the next innings.

During AP’s second innings, the left-arm pacer Rex Singh bagged all the ten wickets as AP was crushed out for just 36 runs and setting just a 53-run target for Manipur. Apart from the no.4 batsman Shivender Sharma (12), none of AP batsman reached the double-digit marks and five batsmen were dismissed for the ducks.

At the end of that innings, Rex had an unimaginable bowling figure of 9.5-6-11-10. In that memorable innings, Rex was on the hat-trick moments for thrice but always remained unsuccessful to achieve another special feat in together. During his long spell, he bagged three wickets in over and four wickets in another over.

Five batsmen were bowled, two batsmen were trapped for lbw, two were caught behind to the wicketkeeper Johnson and the other one was caught out by the fielder Aditya Verma.

Chasing down the little target of 53 runs, Manipur easily reached the target without losing any wicket (55/0). The openers Shubham Chauhan (captain) and Johnson (wicketkeeper) comfortably reached the target in 7.5 overs after remaining unbeaten on 32 and 23 runs respectively.

Talking about Rex Singh, he has already played two first-class matches and two List A games. In the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, Rex made his debut in first-class cricket during the game against Sikkim at Kolkata in early November. Before that, Rex made his List A debut during the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
